Free man, you'll always love the sea

San Benedetto del Tronto hugs the sea and its long docks. The sea is the place for fishing boats, fish and children who, in summer, run long the foreshore looking for shells and little crabs.

THE SEA

San Benedetto del Tronto is an important town in the Marche Riviera, a lively fishing center and one of the bigger seaside resort in the middle Adriatic sea.
The beach, with white fine sand, gently slopes to the sea. The shallow sea bottom is good both for children, who can play safely, and for older people, who loves walking into the waters.
The promenade is enriched by flora from the Mediterranean scrub (medium or little evergreen trees and shrubs) and palms. For this reason San Benedetto is known as “Riviera delle palme” (Palms Riviera).
The town offers the possibility to practice sports involving sailing. We suggest to visit the Marina and the Nautical Club.

THE HILLS

San Benedetto is surrounded by green hills. When summer is approaching, the hills gradually change their colour taking the yellow and orange of sunflowers and wheat and the red of the poppies spread around.
Not far from San Benedetto, there are some of the Best Villages in Italy, the old center of Grottammare and Offida. They are well worth a visit.
Behind the hills, there are the Sibillini mountains, rich in tracks for hikes and legends.

ART AND HISTORY

The historic and architectural assets are held in the Paese Alto of San Benedetto, the old town. There you will find the Gualtieri Tower from the XIV century, the Church of San Benedetto Martire and Palazzo Piacentini which hosts the Historical Archive and the picture gallery “Pinacoteca del Mare”. Recent excavations have revealed remains from the Roman period.
The Museo del Mare, which includes the Amphorae Museum, the Fishing Museum and the Museum of Maritime Activities (Museo delle Attività Marinare), is located inside the harbour area, in the building where it takes place the wholesale fish market.
